Quarantine and Isolation (QI) Non-Medical FAQ

For medical concerns, please refer to the campus health center’s Covid page.

I’ve been told to go into quarantine or isolation. Now what do I do?

Please see the suggested packing list for your QI period, including a list of resources provided in your QI Housing. You will not be allowed back into your residence hall until you are cleared to exit QI Housing, so please be sure to pack the supplies that you need for the duration of your QI, including items necessary for schoolwork, technology, personal medications, towels and linens, etc.

An email has been sent to your K email account detailing which building/room you have been assigned to for your stay.

While you move, please be sure to wear a mask. Please do not stop to talk with others along your way to your QI Housing. You should only be moving between your current residence and your QI Housing – please do not make other stops on campus along the way – this includes refraining from going to any in-person class or work today (and for the rest of your QI period).

Will there be other people in my QI living space?

Possibly. Students may be housed in a building with other students who are also in quarantine or isolation. Each student will have their own room.

If you are quarantining due to a known exposure but have not tested positive, you will not be housed with housemates who have tested positive. You will be notified if any additional people will be moving into the house while you are there. You should have very limited interaction with others in your house. If you have any issues or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Do I have to wear a mask and socially distance inside when I’m in my QI housing?

Yes. Masks should be worn in the QI houses whenever you are outside of your bedroom and the bathroom. Social distance of at least 6 feet should be maintained at all times throughout the house.

Can I socialize with other students during QI? What about students who are also in QI?

No. Guests are not allowed in the QI House at any time, including students from other QI Houses.
Reminder for those in quarantine – interacting with others in the house could lengthen quarantine time if an individual becomes positive. If you don’t want to extend your quarantine time, limit interactions with those in your household.

Students may make short trips outside their room to take care of necessities. Obviously, students will need to use the bathrooms and use the kitchen facilities. Trips should be minimized and timed to avoid others when possible. Social distance of at least 6 feet should be maintained at all times throughout the house.

Students should not leave the QI house except to pick up items or food from their dropbox, throw away trash in the bins outside, or if you have coordinated another test with the health center. Residents should not interact with other individuals while outside.

Should I continue to attend my classes or events while in QI?

Students should not leave the house to attend in-person classes or events. A student is expected to still attend virtual classes, if able. If accommodations are needed due to illness that must be worked out between the student and professor individually. Students are encouraged to attend virtual events offered by academic departments and campus offices during the term.

I have a job. Can I go to work while in QI?

No. Students should not leave the house to attend in-person work. Students with employment on campus should communicate with their supervisors about the possibility of completing virtual tasks while in QI housing.

How do I get food?

Instructions for ordering your meals from Dining Services

  • This form MUST be completed for EACH DAY that you are in QI.
  • Orders must be placed the day before they are needed between 1pm and 6pm. (for example, you must order your meals for Tuesday on Monday between 1pm and 6pm)
  • If you fail to fill out the form for the next day, you risk not receiving a meal delivery- we recommend setting a reminder on your phone to order each day.
  • Fill out the order form here
  • Meals will be delivered once a day between 12:30pm and 1pm to the dropbox located outside of your QI house.  Each delivery will include a continental breakfast, hot lunch, dinner, and beverage.  Plates, utensils, and any reheating instructions will also be included.

Can I order off-campus food delivery to my QI residence? Can a friend drop something off for me?

External food deliveries are allowed, but are required to be no-contact with delivery drivers. Deliveries of other items from friends/family can be made to the house’s external dropbox.

What if I need something during quarantine?

Systems have been set up to meet the most important student needs: laundry, self-care, general house keeping supplies, and trash.

In most circumstances, these are the only services the college will provide students and it is incumbent upon students to bring their necessities with them into QI housing.

Housing Supplies and Trash

To request general housekeeping supplies from Facilities (such as toilet paper, garbage bags, tissues, cleaning supplies, etc.) fill out the supply request form

Facilties will deliver requested supplies to the dropbox outside of your QI housing and will send you an email upon delivery.

Trash and recycling bins are located on the side or back of the house outside. Please bag any trash or recycling and place them in these bins. Trash is picked up weekly.

Self Care Items

To request self-care products from the Student Health Center (such as over-the-counter medications, cough drops, menstrual products, band-aids, etc.) fill out this form.

Be sure to list your quarantine/isolation house address and room number instead of your campus mailbox number to ensure delivery.

Laundry

  • Laundry services are available for free while you are in quarantine/isolation housing.
  • Laundry will ONLY  be picked up on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
You MUST submit a request for laundry pickup on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday no later than 5pm for the pickup the next day.
  • You will receive directions for laundry pickup after competing the request form. Laundry will be returned to you within 1-2 days.
  • Follow this link to request laundry service.

Please note: 1324 Academy, 818 Academy, and 143 Monroe have laundry facilities on-site. Please refer to in-house instructions for completing laundry at these locations.
